Dietetics and nutrition
Personalised eating plans for diabetes, cholesterol, food intolerances, pregnancy, sport or weight loss.

Dietetics and nutrition
The dietetics clinic does not hand out ready-made diets. It starts from what you actually eat, your working hours, the job you do and who cooks at home, and builds a plan from there — one you can keep up. It works both for managing a condition such as diabetes or high cholesterol and simply for eating better with no diagnosis involved.
Where it matters, the plan is drawn up with your blood results to hand and in step with the doctor treating you; blood tests are done in the same building. Follow-up appointments are short and exist to fine-tune the plan: changes to how you eat stick when they are made gradually and fit around real life. Appointments are booked in advance and we work with more than 40 private health insurers.
Services in this specialty: Dietetics and nutrition
- Diabetes. A plan to keep blood sugar steady, spacing meals out and choosing foods that work alongside your medication.
- Cholesterol and heart health. Dietary changes to bring cholesterol down and look after blood pressure, with specific targets we review together.
- Uric acid and gout. Eating patterns that help control uric acid and make painful attacks less likely to return.
- Food intolerances. Plans for coeliac disease, lactose intolerance and other intolerances, with alternatives so you lose neither variety nor nutrients.
- Weight loss. Reduced-calorie plans designed to lose weight at a pace you can sustain, without being hungry all day.
- Anti-inflammatory eating. A plan built around fresh, antioxidant-rich foods, aimed at people with chronic inflammation or persistent pain.
- Pregnancy. Nutritional advice during pregnancy to cover the needs of both mother and baby, including which foods are best avoided.
- Sport. Plans that cover energy needs, improve recovery and match your eating to training and competition.
- Children and families. Food education for younger children and practical ideas so that everyone at home eats a little better.

It is worth booking if a blood test has come back with abnormal results, if you have been diagnosed with an intolerance, if you have tried diets you could not keep up, or if you simply want to eat better. Bring your most recent blood test and, if you can, write down everything you eat and when for three or four days: it is the best way to get the most out of the first appointment. Covered by most health insurers. Check yours on the list of insurers.
Frequently asked questions about Dietetics and nutrition
Should I start dieting before my first nutrition appointment?
No, quite the opposite: it helps to come eating as you normally do, because the plan starts from what you actually eat, your working hours and who cooks at home. If you can, write down everything you eat and when for three or four days: it is the best way to make the most of the first appointment.
Will I be given a fixed diet sheet?
We do not hand out ready-made diets. The plan is built around you, so that you can keep it up and it fits your life, and it is fine-tuned at short follow-up appointments, because changes to how you eat work best when they are made gradually.
Do I need to bring blood test results to the dietetics clinic in Palafrugell?
It helps to bring the most recent one you have, especially if blood sugar, cholesterol or uric acid were out of range. If you have nothing recent, the test can be done at Centre Mèdic Palafrugell itself, and the plan is then drawn up with the results to hand and in step with the doctor treating you.
